problem

The coronavirus pandemic is one example of a pandemic that surged through the lives of millions. Everyone was affected in some aspect, including college students. Universities mainly operated classes online and campuses were becoming more barren. Through all the chaos, one thing remained certain, that those who travel onto campus need to be equipped with masks in order to stop the spread.

How can we implement a wearable product that makes it easier for students to access their mask and inspires them to do so during pandemics that spread through airborne particles?

case study: interview

Emily, a 21 year old college student, was interviewed to understand what her academic life looks like during the Covid19 pandemic, as well as how she carries her belongings around.

a-wear brand

a-wear is a play on the word “aware.” One of my goals in making this backpack is to illuminate and inspire students on the importance of being aware, especially during times when wearing a mask is essential.

process

The process consisted of cutting out a flat pattern, sewing pockets onto panels, sewing all the panels together, lining the straps and back panels with foam for comfort, adding grosgrain to edges, and making final touches.
